Brandon Witkow is a highly-experienced litigator whose practice includes all types of business litigation disputes, including intellectual property, entertainment and sports law, and general business contract and tort actions. In addition to commercial litigation matters, Brandon also specializes in asset location and collection on behalf of judgment creditors. Brandon’s clients range from startup companies to publicly-traded corporations to individuals in a wide variety of industries, including financial services, entertainment and media, sports, food service, life settlements and high technology.
In addition to his litigation practice, Brandon regularly counsels clients in connection with the management of actual and potential business disputes in the context of their overall business goals. He collaborates with clients, their executives, and in-house counsel to formulate and implement customized litigation strategies. For example, where the client’s primary business interest was to resolve litigation to make the company more attractive to a prospective buyer, Brandon negotiated a quick and favorable settlement to eliminate the exposure associated with the lawsuit. By contrast, when a large company was concerned that it was developing the reputation of being an easy mark for frivolous litigation, Brandon engineered a hard-nosed and aggressive defense that resulted in a complete victory for the client and sent a message to the plaintiff’s bar that the company would rather pay its attorneys than settle meritless claims.
Brandon represents clients in state and federal courts throughout California, Georgia and across the country. He has acquired significant experience in all stages of commercial litigation, including bench and jury trials and appeals, and has substantial experience representing clients in both mediation and arbitration.
Prior to forming witkow | baskin in August 2014, Brandon was a litigation partner with the international law firm of Locke Lord, LLP, and, before that, with Manatt Phelps & Phillips, LLP. He also served as Counsel on the Rampart Independent Review Panel, which conducted an impartial analysis of the policies, culture, training, and disciplinary procedures of the Los Angeles Police Department in light of the Rampart corruption scandal.
Brandon earned his J.D. from Emory University School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Brandon is deeply involved with, and provides services to, the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, Bet Tzedek, and Georgia Lawyers for the Arts, and is an active member of the Sports Lawyers Association.
