Cory is a dedicated and decorated attorney with more than ten years of professional legal experience. A seasoned commercial litigator with a strong background in intellectual property law, Cory has taken multiple matters to trial in both state and federal courts, argued in and appeared before numerous appellate courts and arbitration bodies, drafted countless dispositive motions in multi-million dollar cases, and negotiated favorable settlements on behalf of a legion of clients including prominent film and television companies, banks, fashion retailers, and real estate developers. In particular, Cory has handled highly contentious copyright and trademark disputes for, among others, NBCUniversal, Scripps Networks, the Estate of Michael Jackson, and Aeropostale, and has successfully represented national and regional financial institutions in myriad litigations and arbitrations seeking recovery against duplicitous borrowers and guarantors.
Although he specializes in litigation, Cory also handles a wide array of transactional matters, with particular experience drafting and reviewing commercial contracts and leases. Cory frequently counsels business clients on conflict avoidance, but when conflict cannot be avoided, he makes it his practice to season his zealous advocacy with honesty, integrity, and humor. Deeply committed to pro bono causes, Cory also serves on the Associate Leadership Board for Public Counsel, helping guide policy for the nation’s largest pro bono law firm.
Cory is licensed to practice law in all state and federal courts in California. Prior to joining witkow | baskin, Cory was a Senior Litigator at Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP, and, before that, an Associate at Locke Lord, LLP. In 2007, Cory took a leave of absence from Locke Lord, LLP to clerk for the Hon. John F. Walter of the United States District Court for the Central District of Los Angeles. Cory earned his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts from Rice University in Houston, Texas. Prior to attending law school, Cory was a Teach for America corps member, teaching second grade in the South Bronx in New York City and sixth grade in Southeast Los Angeles. Cory is originally from the North Shore of Chicago and remains a huge Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks and Cubs fan.
